Food availability and food safety are vitally important to our well-being. Food is an essential, so even with calls for “social distancing” because of the Corona virus pandemic, no one is suggesting that we stop shopping for groceries, it’s just that you have to maintain good hygiene in order to fight against Corona Virus. So it is our duty to ensure the safety of the foods that we, our family and our pets eat.
The Corona virus spreads mainly from one person to another. When an infected person comes in contact with another person by means of hand-shakes or through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person sneezes or coughs. When a corona infected person touches the surface or object, the virus may resides on that place, when a normal person touches their mouth, nose or eyes by touching the same place the possibility of the person can get the infection is high.
Our foods may be safe, but what about the packaging? Here are some tips when it comes to food safety amid the coronavirus pandemic:
The risk
Regardless of who you are, if you are receiving anything from the outside, food delivery, packages, etc. You should always decontaminate surfaces that can be reasonably cleaned, and wash your hands after handling anything. A hand sanitizer is also beneficial if you don’t have soap and hot water available. So if you take extra precautions, there shouldn’t be anything to worry about.
What about boxes and delivery bags?
When you bring outside food into the house, wear gloves to remove the food from the containers/packaging if possible else use your own utensils to keep the food and wash them thoroughly. Through away the packaging materials or recycle them. And without touching your face you should immediately wash your hands.
Is it safer to get your own groceries
It all comes down to practicing safe hygiene, social distancing and washing your hands – a lot. For some, going out to the grocery store or elsewhere to gather food could be a very significant risk. But you have to take care of yourselves by maintaining a good distance.
When you’re at the grocery store.
(a) Only pick up what you’re going to buy so that you are not touching a ton of products.
(b) Try to get 2-week worth groceries so that you don’t have to go out over and over.
(c) You should sanitize the counter before bringing in the groceries.
(d) Get rid of external packaging like the boxes and Wipe down plastics to avoid risk.
The only way to keep yourself safe from COVID-19 is to washing your hands regularly, even when are preparing food. All of these small steps could have a great impact. While this is an imperfect process, it may add that little push for families to minimize the risk as much as possible.
As Yenna Dosa has started home delivery we take proper precaution and care before delivering.
